TAVI Adverse Event Risk Calculator (TAE)

The TAE calculator was previously hosted at and subsequently moved here at AlvissLabs in 2020 to showcase our efforts in the development of predictive medicine algorithms.

The TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation or replacement) Adverse Event Calculator tools are intended to provide an estimation of the risk of occurence of adverse events. Currently are provided calculators for mortality and cerebrovascular event (stroke, transient ischemic event).

Origin of the calculators

The mortality prediction calculator has been developed using a shallow neural network on the French TAVI database (FRANCE-TAVI). A graphical representation of the model is:

mortality risk algorithm

The cerebrovascular event risk calculator has been developed using the random forest algorithm on the Swiss Bern TAVI database.

The provided calculators aim at classifying patients into 2 groups, high risk and low risk. The proposed probability thresholds are 4% for mortality and 3.6% for cerebrovascular event prediction.

Notes about the mortality calculator

>1 APO within 1 year: 1 or more acutepulmonary oedema within the last year. BMI: body mass index. CABG: coronary artery bypass graft. Coronary artery stenosis >50%: refers to untreated lesions before the procedure. Critical state: ventricular tachycardia or cardiac arrest or inotropes or mechanical circulatory support. CVE: cerebro-vascular event including stroke and transient ischemic attack. LVEF: left ventricle ejection fraction. LVOT: left ventricle outflow tract. PAD: peripheral artery disease including carotid and lower limb atherosclerotic disease. PCI: percutaneous coronary intervention. Pulmonary hypertension: according to pulmonary artery pressure; none if below 30 mmHg, moderate if between 30 and 60 mmHg, and severe if over 60 mmHg. Severe mobility reduction: wheelchair dependency or bed-bound.

Conversion tools are provided at the bottom of the mortality calculator page.
